Mr Jonathan Rajan
Consultant in Pain Medicine Mb CHB BSc (Hons) FRCA FFPMRCA PGCERT (Med Ed)
Dr Rajan qualified in 2006 from The University of Edinburgh and has trained in Edinburgh, London and the North West. His NHS post is as a Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia where has practised since 2015. He has trained across the Uk including in London, Manchester as well as European centres of excellence.
Dr Rajan’s consultant practice involves conducting a range of interdisciplinary pain medicine clinics with interventional practice including radiofrequency, neuromodulation, coeliac plexus blocks, nerve root blocks and epidurals. He works assessing both secondary and tertiary pain medicine referrals and as an integral part of an interdisciplinary pain management team, aiming to maximise patient involvement and satisfaction. He is also part of the leading spinal multidisciplinary team in the North West.
Dr Rajan is a national leader in pain medicine education and is among the first cohort of 10 doctors to be recommended for the title of specialist credential in pain medicine for his work within the board of the faculty of pain medicine.
Dr Rajan has spearheaded various projects as a consultant aimed at raising the standard of pain training as well as maximising engagement with the public. He is the elected head Chair of Regional advisors for in pain medicine, Vice Chair of examinations at the Faculty of Pain Medicine and a board member for the faculty of pain medicine. He is the Head of the Essential Pain Medicine Steering Group for the University of Manchester and has developed the first multicentre structured pain teaching, for undergraduates, in the North West region. Dr Rajan has co-authored national guidance on best practice for spinal interventions for the British Pain Society and taught on national courses for radiofrequency denervation.
Dr Rajan has an interest in metabolic medicine patients with chronic pain (working in one of only two national centres that specialise in such disease) and have lectured to both specialist groups and patient groups on the subject of chronic pain in metabolic disease nationally. He conducts acute pain ward rounds in both NHS and private hospitals and sees both chronic and cancer pain patients.
Dr Rajan has experience of pain management rehabilitation following or as part of a medicolegal claim for personal injury. He has attended completed the Cardiff Expert Witness certificate, is a member of the National Expert Witness Association, and offers expert witness medicolegal reports for personal injury cases involving chronic pain.
